Roommates, things are about to get real on Capitol Hill. House Speaker Nancy Pelosi held a press conference this afternoon to formally announce an impeachment inquiry into Trump.
If you’re confused, don’t be. An impeachment inquiry is just a fancy way to say Pelosi plans to open up an investigation to begin the impeachment process against Trump.
The drama surrounds a conversation Trump had with Ukraine’s president in which he is accused of pressuring the leader to investigate former Vice President Joe Biden’s son. Trump asked his acting chief of staff to put a hold on millions in military aid to Ukraine roughly one week before the call, two senior administration officials said, according to CNN.
Trump’s admittance to the nature of the call and using his contacts for personal gain in the upcoming election are what many House Democrats say are impeachable offenses.
Pelosi met with fellow Dems today and their meeting prompted her to finally move forward with impeachment proceedings.
“He’s taken it to another level of betrayal, therefore we’re moving forward with another level of inquiry,” Pelosi said.
Earlier today, Biden said he believes Trump has left Congress “no choice but to initiate impeachment.”
Of course, Trump got on the defense when the news broke and took to Twitter to speak on the scandal, calling the impeachment inquiry a “witch hunt.”
Of the 235 Democrats in the house, 161 support an impeachment inquiry into Trump and the number is believed to grow. We promise to keep you updated on the proceedings moving forward.
