Bobby Brown To Receive Atlanta Proclamation For Building Domestic Violence Shelter In Daughter’s Name

Bobby Brown will be honored by city officials in Atlanta, Georgia over his plans to build a domestic violence shelter in memory of his late daughter.

Bobbi Kristina Brown, the singer’s only child with his late ex-wife Whitney Houston, died in July, 2015, six months after she was found unconscious in a bathtub at the Alpharetta, Georgia home she shared with her boyfriend, Nick Gordon.

Coroners ruled the 22-year-old died from a combination of drugs and drowning, but in a wrongful death lawsuit filed against Gordon, Brown joined his daughter’s court-appointed estate executor in accusing him of physically abusing the aspiring actress prior to her death, and of giving her a “toxic cocktail” of substances, which made her lose consciousness as she bathed.

Kori Hale has spent just over six years away from her desk on Wall Street, but the startup founder of CultureBanx—which is trying to redefine business, finance, and tech news through the lens of black professionals—still introduces herself as an investment banker.

Hale was indeed an investment banker in her past life. She worked for UBS Investment Bank in London and as an investment banker for Goldman Sachs in New York. As much as Hale loves the financial news business, it was a different mission that spurred her to launch her own business.

“While I was at Goldman (Sachs), one of my desks at the time was on the floor under one of the TV screens and I remember looking up and saying hey, I can’t relate to any of this content, which is the normal gamut of business news shows on CNBC, Bloomberg, and Fox Business,” Hale said. “In that moment I thought, ‘I could be doing that.’”

They are being held while their parents await immigration proceedings or, if the children arrived unaccompanied, are reviewed for possible asylum themselves.

In May, the agency issued requests for bids for five projects that could total more than $500 million for beds, foster and therapeutic care, and “secure care,” which means employing guards. More contracts are expected to come up for bids in October.

HHS spokesman Kenneth Wolfe said the agency will award bids “based on the number of beds needed to provide appropriate care for minors in the program.”
