    During a recent Hollywood Foreign Press Association event, she was asked whether or not things have changed in the film industry since the issue has been in the public eye.

    AT&T’s recent acquisition spree is part of a plan to dominate advertising on connected TVs and devices

    AT&T has a rationale behind its recent acquisition spree.

    The company wants to dominate the business of selling targeted advertising on internet-connected TVs and devices, according to advertising executives who have had conversations with the company.

    On the content side, AT&T acquired Time Warner for a whopping $85.4 billion, though the Department of Justice is suing to block the deal. It purchased entertainment company Otter Media for a price reported around $1 billion. It’s also buying advertising tech such as the digital ad platform AppNexus, which it reportedly got for around $1.6 billion. AT&T has met with additional advertising technology companies about potential acquisitions.

    The endgame for AT&T is to develop a new ad platform to sell targeted advertising on video content, regardless of where the person is watching and whether they have a cable or satellite subscription.

    Workers see their paychecks get smaller as inflation continues to rise

    While the rest of the economy pointed higher in July, American workers took a step backwards.

    Hourly and weekly earnings languished when factoring in the rise in cost of living, according to figures the Labor Department released Friday.

    Average weekly earnings actually decreased 0.2 percent over the one-month period and increased only fractionally from the same period a year ago. Average hourly earnings were unchanged over the month and actually two cents lower than July 2017.

    New Mexico Store Clerk Calls Police On College Student Because He’s ‘Arrogant And Black’

    A clerk at a convenience store in Santa Fe, NM., called the police a 22-year-old college student because he was “arrogant and black.”

    On August 2, Jordan McDowell recorded the employee on his cellphone and, told local station KRQE that he was racially profiled when he went into the store to buy candy. While speaking on the phone, the employee can be heard saying, “and I want him out of the store right now.” After a pause, the employee can be heard saying “because he’s being arrogant, because he’s black.”

    Trial Delayed As Rapper Juelz Santana Negotiates For Deal

    Rapper Juelz Santana’s scheduled trial on charges he tried to get a gun onto a plane at an airport has been pushed back so he can continue negotiations for a plea deal.

    A trial had been scheduled for early September. But an order filed this month extended the trial date at least until Sept. 30 “to permit defense counsel the reasonable time necessary for effective preparation in this matter and to allow the parties to enter into plea negotiations.”

    Santana, whose real name is LaRon James, was arrested in March. Authorities said Newark Liberty International Airport security found a loaded .38-caliber handgun and unprescribed oxycodone pills in a carry-on bag containing his identification. Santana left the area, leaving two bags behind, and turned himself in three days later.

    Papa John’s founder accuses board of ‘coup,’ sues company for records

    Papa John’s founder John Schnatter is suing the pizza chain, seeking documents related to his ouster as chairman earlier this month and accusing the board of acting negligently or staging a possible “coup,” according to the lawsuit filed Thursday in Delaware.

    Schnatter resigned his post on July 11 after Forbes published an article detailing a May conference call in which Schnatter used the N-word. He confirmed his comments, apologized and stepped down as chairman that same day, after giving up his CEO post in November.

    Bobby Brown To Receive Atlanta Proclamation For Building Domestic Violence Shelter In Daughter’s Name

    Bobby Brown will be honored by city officials in Atlanta, Georgia over his plans to build a domestic violence shelter in memory of his late daughter.

    Bobbi Kristina Brown, the singer’s only child with his late ex-wife Whitney Houston, died in July, 2015, six months after she was found unconscious in a bathtub at the Alpharetta, Georgia home she shared with her boyfriend, Nick Gordon.

    Coroners ruled the 22-year-old died from a combination of drugs and drowning, but in a wrongful death lawsuit filed against Gordon, Brown joined his daughter’s court-appointed estate executor in accusing him of physically abusing the aspiring actress prior to her death, and of giving her a “toxic cocktail” of substances, which made her lose consciousness as she bathed.
